Nutrition and Health: Information and Resources
Health professional organizations such as the American Dietetic Association believe that a healthy lifestyle can be achieved by eating a diet that is balanced and includes a variety of foods in moderation. In addition, they recognize the importance of incorporating moderate physical activity into daily routines. While it is important that consumers understand the importance of healthful eating and physical activity, it is also important that they engage in these behaviors over time.
As manufacturers of confections and part of the larger food industry, we have a role to play in helping consumers understand the importance of healthful eating habits and physical activity.
Chocolate and candy are delicious foods that fit any healthy and active lifestyle. They contribute to the enjoyment of eating while also providing some nutrients that help consumers meet dietary requirements. Research indicates that confectionary products make up a small percentage of the calories we eat and in general, consumers of confections fall within healthy weight ranges.
NCA promotes nationwide nutrition and physical activity education and welcomes working in partnership with those organizations dedicated to consumer health, including the American Council on Fitness and Nutrition and ACTIVATE, with their interactive web site Kidnetic.com. In addition, we support nutrition and health research that is sound, reasoned, and science based. We must focus our research on understanding the factors that motivate individuals to choose a balanced diet and embrace physical activity over time, if real, lasting progress is to be made in the areas of nutrition and health.
