Chicago — Fannie May Confections Inc., a division of Alpine Confections Inc., plans to reopen the first of 47 retail locations today. The other stores will open through mid-November.

The first several stores will open in the Chicago area, followed by two openings in Wisconsin, four in Indiana and the rest throughout Illinois. All of the stores are former Fanny May locations.

In addition, Fannie May’s mail-order operation is expected to run at full capacity by month’s end.

The Alpine, Utah-based company bought Fanny May in April after former owner Archibald Candy Corp. declared bankruptcy. It acquired the Fannie May and Fanny Farmer brand names, candy recipes, trademarks and company-owned stores.
